Roads in Sweden are generally of a very good quality, with well-maintained surfaces throughout the country – the main problem with Swedish roads is their tendency to attract local wildlife, with Elk and Deer proving hazardous. Dipped headlights are mandatory in the day and studded tyres, which are easily obtainable, are allowed from the beginning of November until Easter time. Public transport in and around the cities of Sweden is of a superior quality, with buses offering efficient and reasonably priced services to regions throughout the country – many to areas that other public transport just doesn’t cover. Trams, metro, local trains and taxis are available through Stockholm, with well-integrated services and a multitude of ticketing options to cover all types of travel. Sweden’s rail system is the most popular way of getting around the country – whilst it does not cover as many destinations as the bus and coach services do, the comfort and inexpensive nature of travel more than make up for it. Numerous different discount tickets can be obtained and trains are fast and safe. SAS offer countless internal flight services to any of the 30 domestic airports scattered through the country, with certain discounts available. There are many small ferry services available, taking passengers to the archipelagos around the Southeast coast.
